INTERVIEW OPOKU Manu Richmond (Défenseur central) :

“My priority is the title of champion of Côte d’Ivoire”

Central Defender OPOKU Manu Richmond from Ghana has this season packed his bags at ASEC Mimosas through Africa Sports and Sporting Club de Gagnoa. He is entering his fourth season in Côte d’Ivoire with the firm will to win the title of Champion of Côte d’Ivoire that he has coveted since his arrival.

What was the route that led you to ASEC Mimosas?

I really started my football career in Ghana, at the Club Asante Kotoko where I did my classes until reaching the first team.  I then arrived in Côte d’Ivoire in 2016 to sign with the club of Africa Sports. After two seasons with the “Green and Red”, I signed for SC Gagnoa where I played only half the season before meeting again this season at ASEC Mimosas.

What motivated you to sign for your new club?

ASEC Mimosas is one of the largest clubs in Africa and therefore one of the best showcases on the continent. When you receive a proposal from this club, you cannot remain indifferent. So I took the opportunity. And now I’m here to mark my time in this club.

What were your first impressions of sol Beni?

I immediately noticed the facilities. ASEC Mimosas is really a professional club. The content of the workouts differs from those I have experienced in the past. Here, the player is closely monitored and subjected to weight gain at the beginning of each week. It’s all professionalism.

How do you feel about this ASEC Mimosas team?

We are almost all new to this team. But it feels like we’ve known each other for years. The atmosphere is very good and solidarity is in order. The start of the season seems difficult but we are holding on because we are still unbeaten in 3 days with two draws and a win. I am sure that when we recover we will be much better.

What are your personal ambitions?

ASEC Mimosas is a club with a large audience. I want to have a great season with her by winning the title of champion of Côte d’Ivoire that I have coveted since my arrival in this country. With this team, the probability of succeeding this bet is great. I must therefore work to lead this noble struggle which will surely open the doors of professionalism in Europe in America or Asia.

You’re facing stiff competition. What is your strategy to impose yourself?

I keep fighting and I’m waiting for my time. ASEC Mimosas has recruited good interchangeable players in each position to build its team. The last word goes to the coach who according to his aspirations makes the player play that he believes can animate his system well.

Which European club would you like to play in?

I really like the Chelsea Football Club of England which usually hosts many African players.

Who is the footballer who inspires you the most?

I am a fan of Sergio RAMOS, the Spanish defender of Real Madrid. He is a true leader with a great influence on the performance of his club.

Are you Zouglou or Cut-off?

I prefer the Zouglou which is a bit similar to the “High Life” in Ghana.

What is the dish (meal) that you like the most?

In Côte d’Ivoire, you can’t do without the “Garba”. But, I also like rice with clear sauce.

What should Shareholders expect from this ASEC Mimosas team?

We have a good group that has had problems at the start-up. But I’m sure we’ll achieve our end-of-season goals. For this we will need their support and presence at the stadium to always push us to victory.
