AFRICAN AMBITIONS

EDITORIAL

ASEC Mimosas is back in the African Cup. For its first meeting in the Confederation, the leading Ivory Coast club Cup received last weekend, academicians from Yaoundé. The victory at home to the APEJES Football Academy (2-0) launched the newAfrican campaign of Mimos very nicely. This success, to be confirmed in Yaoundé,carries the seal of the African ambitions of our club.

ASEC Mimosas in Africa, is not a newcomer. It is a well known club. During a history rich in African campaigns, the teams of ASEC Mimosas scored all audiences of the continent by memorable benefits. Accra, Alexandria, Bamako, Casablanca, Conakry, Dakar, Harare, Jobourg, Kampala, Kumasi, Lagos, Cairo, Libreville, Tripoli, Tunis, Ouaga, Owerri, Windhoek, Yaoundé…, the list is long. All these capitals have seen evolve players Mimos talented, fun and effective soccer teams. ASEC Mimosas wrote his legend in the biggest African stadiums. This legend must continue!

African club black and yellow top, we find a WAFU Cup, a Champions League, CAF,a Super Bowl of CAF. This compelling painting is to appreciate taking into accounta large number of presences in the quarterfinals and semi-finals of the competitions in Africa, not to mention the accident in 1995, in the final of the African Cup of Champions Clubs. The course of ASEC Mimosas is a club to the undeniable influence on the African sports scene. A great Ivorian sports leader said this: the AfricanCup Burns! He was probably right, in a shade close: she gives herself finally to themost deserving.

The merit of ASEC Mimosas is not only sports. It is recognized in terms of organization, training and governance by African football governing bodies. They regularly cite the yellow and black club as the ‘African model club. It should be mainly therecognition of the impressive construction effort by President Roger OUEGNIN since his arrival at the head of the club in 1989. It is also the reason for his presenceat the forum organized this week by CAF to debate the development of African football.

By inviting President Roger OUEGNIN event which brings together personalities from the world of football, the CAF held to remind his “exceptional contribution to African and world football.” It is a mark of consideration that deserves be relieved for a President who has had a national, African and global ambition for his club, for our club, ASEC Mimosas.

The President of the Board of Directors will not be in Yaounde Sunday next to attend the return leg of the first round of the Confederation Cup final. He will follow his foals remotely, after asking them to not lack ambition for themselves and ASECMimosas. His advice are thinking about a man of conquests well known, NapoleonBonaparte, who never missed an opportunity to recall that ‘what is criminal, is not to fail, its lack of ambition”. It’s the same message that supervisors are responsiblefor relaying to the players before the game.

Shareholders expect their team a success to confirm its African ambitions. And this expectation is all the more vivid the Confederation Cup is the only trophy missing in table of the yellow and black club hunting.
